Aberdeen v Hibernian - Match Report

Aberdeen were yet again held to another 0-0 draw at Pittodrie as an important three points for the Dons went a begging. Considering the fact that Aberdeen have only won 3 games at home this season and Hibs only 3 away, the outcome of the match was almost inevitable.

Aberdeen started brightly and within the second minute, Pawlett, back from his loan spell at St Johnstone drove into the box and went over. Craig Thompson then produced a yellow card for Pawlett as he saw him to be taking a dive.

Ten minutes later the Dons were awarded a spot kick for the first time in over a year, when Johnny Hayes skipped past a green shirt on the left and was upended by Clancy. McGinn stepped up to take the penalty, he sent it bottom left but Ben Williams was equal to the shot and parried it out wide right.
Aberdeen's next clear cut chance fell to Robertson at the edge of the box, a minute from half time, but he lashed at the shot and sent it miles over the bar.

It was all Aberden in the second half, they had sustained pressure for up to 20 minutes with no break through and no clear efforts on goal. But in the 68th minute Hibs got their best chance of the match, as a ball was floated into Langfields back post and Doyle could only feebly head into Langfields arms. Moments later, Hayes turned and delivered a powerful angled drive that inched past the Hibs post. In the dying minutes of the game, hibs keeper Williams had a mix up with his defence, and the ball broke for Magennis, who just simply could not get the ball under control and was eventually cleared away.

The result still sees Aberdeen sitting in 5th place, 2 points behind 4th placed hibs and 3 points ahead of Kilmanrnock in 8th place. The Dons need to win their next two games against St Johnstone midweek in the league and Hibernian again in the Scottish cup.
