Aberdeen v Ross County Match Report

On a night where Aberdeen had to win to keep dreams of a second place spot alive, they failed and now we are going to be once again in the struggle for top six. The Aberdeen performance was without fight, determination and just that sheer cutting edge you need to win games.

The first half was a pretty woeful affair, in the way of quality. The half started with Ross County taking control, passing the ball about albeit with no real threat in attack, the Dons just couldn't get their feet on the ball, and were not allowed to settle into the game by the Staggies. Aberdeen's best chance of the first 45, came to Jack. Hayes floated a ball over the County defence and Jack latched onto it. Ross County's defence were quick to recover so Jack cut inside and took a shot that only dribbled past the post. Despite Ross County not offering much in the way of chances, they always looked a threat on the break as they proved in the 35th minute. Sproule picked up the ball at the edge of the box, and took a shot despite the tight angle. The shot forced Langfield into a good save, and turned it behind for a corner. County dominated the rest of the half, with no more clear cut chances being created.

A change was needed, and Brown agreed by bringing on Pawlett for Fallon. The first real effort and by no means a decent one was when Hayes made a surging run up the wing and layed off to Rae at the edge of the box, who blasted over the bar into the top of the RDS stand. Again Ross County responded by having a period of pressure of their own. Sproule worked his way away from Anderson and tamely shot in at goal, an easy gather for Langfield. Moments later Sproule created another chance and had another shot. Probably main talking point of the match was when Sproule was substituted by Derek Adams the County manager. Sproule reacted angrily to the change and had a few words to say to his manager before taking his place on the bench. McGinn was through on goal as a long ball was misjudged by the County defence and McGinn fired into the side netting, to be fair it was an extremely tight angle. Gary Glen was the man who came on for Sproule and he proved to be the super sub and change that Ross County needed. In the 81st minute a high ball was stuck into the Aberdeen box one that was not dealt with, Wohlfarth touched it to Glen who finished high into the net to secure the points for Ross County. A fight back was non-existent from the poor Aberdeen side that took to the field on a cold Tuesday evening.
