Kilmarnock v Aberdeen Match Report

Aberdeen and Kilmarnock played out a 1-1 draw where the score line did not reflect the dominance and chances that Aberdeen had throughout the game once again ruing the chances they had to win the game.

The Dons came flying out the traps and the first real clear cut chance came when Ryan Jack who had returned from injury back heeled the ball down the wing to McGinn, who drove in a low cross. Milsom was the reciever of the cross, struck at goal and from point back range Cammy Bell made a remarkable save to keep the score at 0-0. The seventh minute was a moment of sheer brilliance, the ball sat up nicely for Fallon to the left hand side of the goal and he just simply dinked the ball to the far post with the outside of his left foot, seeing the ball drop into the corner of the net. Magnificent! He doesn't score often but when he does it's wonderful. Kilmarnock had created nothing in the way of chances until Ross Barbour drove up the right wing and fizzed a low cross into the Dons box, Heffernan looked to have mis-controlled the ball but it came back to him and on the spin took a shot and only saw it go inches past the post. Moments later up the other end of the park Niall McGinn went on another of his surging runs, twisting in and out and then unleashed a stunning strike that whizzed past bell and rattled the crossbar. Kilmarnock found themselves back in the match in the latter stage of the first half and Heffernan Kilmarnock's man of the moment prodeuced another shot that was saved by Langfield. Aberdeen almost made it 0-2 when Ryan Jack put a cross into the box from the right and Shaughnessy latched onto it with a low volley only to see it drive past the post. Then the moment came that Aberdeen had been dreading in the 40th minute. A long ball was pumped forward by Sissoko and Gros latched onto it and drove into the box, his second touch was heavy but that put it right into the path of Heffernan, who shot home for his 4th goal in two games. Aberdeen could of been 0-5 up if they had taken their chances.

The second half was dominated by refereeing decisions and great saves from Cammy Bell. Aberdeen once again started the better team and were ceating a bundle of chances. Shots from Hayes and McGinn rained in on Bell's goal without really troubling the Killie keeper. The main talking point of the half was the Don's penalty appeal. A poor touch from Cammy Bell after a pass back saw McGinn in on goal and looked certain to score, when he was stricken down to the ground by a clattering challenge from the Kilmarnock keeper. Everybody in the ground thought it was a penalty including Kilmarnock staff and players, but the ref saw otherwise and handed out McGinn a yellow card for diving. Disgraceful decision, it even had Craig Brown out his seat. Aberdeen were through at the end after another great save from Bell rebounded to Hayes he could not loft the ball high enough to guide it into the net. Another 3 points gone a begging for us Dons, these draws are killing us!
