Aberdeen v Motherwell Match Report

In a game in which Aberdeen had to win to keep dreams of a top six finish alive, they passed up the oppertunity, seeing the game finish another 0-0 stalemate, the sixth of the season at Pittodrie. It as the same old story on Saturday afternoon as Aberdeen were the better team playing the better football, and creating the better chances. But simply passed their chances up one after another.

The first half looked promising for the Dons, and on the other hand Motherwell were putting in a pretty shocking display for their standards.Within the opening ten minutes Aberdeen were on top and the first decent move of the game, which found McGinn out wide right, who drove to the by-line and fizzed a cross into the box, Hayes was waiting at the back post to tap in, but Hateley cleared for the Steelmen. The Dons had the better of the opening exchanges, and that continued with a close range header from Shaughnessy going over the bar, and a cross from McGinn that Hayes was inches away from latching onto. It was these fine margins that Aberdeen found themselves on the wrong side of. On the half hour mark Motherwell found themselves with a decent attacking oppertunity from a freekick. It was well struck by Hateley and was heading in top corner, but Langfield was equal to it.

The second half continued much the same as the first, a fantastic pass from Jamie Langield up to McGinn saw him right through, but as he bared down on goal, the angle got tighter and tighter and McGinn could only blast the ball straight at the Motherwell keeper. Following that Motherwell had a few tame efforts on goal not really troubling Langfield at all. Probably the chance of the match followed, a long throw in into the box from Shaughnessy bobbled and ricoched about and eventually fell to Magennis who didn't catch the ball properly and it bobbled to the Motherwell keeper. He should have done better.Magennis tried to redeem himself with a close ranged header, but once again fired over the bar. Up the other end Motherwell were through on gol after a brilliant pass from Ojama who picked out Nicky Law in acres of space. He had too much time to think about it and squandered the chance as he took a weak shot that Langield diverted out for a corner. The  final chance of the game fell to McGinn at the edge of the box who struck the shot sweetly but it curved wide of the goal.

Another disappointing afternoon for the Dons, even more so for the fans who are becoming increasingly frustrated as once again they saw another stalemate a.t Pitoddrie
