Aberdeen took to the field in their new Strip for next season (all red once again) whilst Hearts also showed off their new gear for the coming season and wore their new White away top with blue and maroon flashings under the arms. Aberdeen started with a high tempo and as a result of that they carved up the first chance of the afternoon. Webster failed to deal with a simple long ball and allowed Magennis in. The striker looped the ball over the keeper and looked sure for a tap in, but McGowan made a superb last ditch tackle to keep the score at 0-0. Hearts were looking dangerous on the break and they proved this as Taouil powered down the left wing and played the ball forward to Jason Holt. Holt looked to produce a good cross, but Isaac Osbourne ultimately playing his last match for the Dons along with several other players, got back in time to deflect the ball behind for a corner. A mention must go to Hearts keeper MacDonald who was outstanding in between the posts, a cut back was layed to McGinn who smashed the ball in on goal and was heading for the top of the net but was denied by the fingertips of MacDonald. Soon after Smith found himself in some space on the right edge of the box for the Dons. However the chance was wasted as he fired straight at the Hearts keeper who palmed the ball away. Aberdeen were beginning to pile on the pressure but the Hearts keeper kept the scores level once more as he made another fine save to prevent Magennis from hitting the back of the net. Aberdeen would have been frustrated going in at the break with nothing to show for their efforts.
The second half continued in the same fashion as Cammy Smith had another good effort on goal that was pushed away by MacDonald. Stern words at half time from Gary Locke seemed to have done the trick as Hearts were the team that took the lead. An in-swinging corner was placed right onto the back post where Stevenson lept above everybody else, headed back across goal and found the net. Aberdeen responded well and didn't let their heads go down. However they were wandering what they had to do to beat the man in-between the Hearts posts as he was having a stormer of the game. In the 78th minute the pondering ended as MacDonald was eventually beaten but by his own player. Hayes drilled a low ball in across the face of goal and Hamill slid in to try and clear it but failed to do so and turned the ball into his own net instead. Hamill then looked to redeem himself and went up the other end and had a long shot at goal but that didn't trouble Langfield.
So the season ends on a more positive note as McInnes is still unbeaten in his reign at Pittodrie and looks to have the basis of a good team, here's to next season!
