Aberdeen will be looking for a re-run of what happened earlier in the season at Fir Park when the Dons emerged 1-3 victors over Motherwell. A win for either side will see them progress into the semi final of the competition and Aberdeen will be looking to get there and stay in with a chance for the cup. Now that Celtic are out it really can go to anybody, and if Aberdeen play like they have been, well they might just be in with a great chance of making the cup theirs.
There are no new injury worries for Derek McInnes, but striker Josh Magennis still remains out with a knee injury. Chris Clark is back training but is unlikely to feature in the cup clash on Wednesday evening. Aberdeen were absent from their usual semi final place last year but are hopeful that with a good performance it will see them progress to take up that position this year. Aberdeen have now recorded two wins on the bounce against tough opponents in the way of Dundee United and Hibernian, both teams strong top six contenders and will be looking to take their third scalp by seeing off the Well outfit tomorrow evening. Aberdeen progressed into this round of the competition by destroying a decent Falkirk side in the last round, a similar performance will be needed to come away with the result that the red contingent off the stadium will be looking for.
The Red Army are once again back out in their numbers again having sol just under 2,000 tickets for the game. A further four or five hundred are expected to turn up as cash turnstiles will be in operation at the game.
Motherwell have a couple of injury doubts for the match. First choice keeper Lee Hollis remains out so Gunnar Nielsen will keep hi place in between the sticks. Stuart McCall will be hopeful that star man James McFadden could make a return following a hamstring problem that he has been suffering recently. A poor defeat to St Johnstone on Sunday will surely have dented the confidence around the club after flying so high in recent weeks.
The match is balanced on a knife edge Aberdeen sit in 2nd place in the Premiership whilst Motherwell sit 4th, both teams separated by only a single point. It looks to be a superb match and would probably have been the tie of the round if the Edinburgh derby wasn't drawn out the hat. It will definitely be the footballing tie of the round that is for sure!
