After being one of Derek McInnes' summer signings the Dons fans had quite a bit of optimism about the new striker. However the Congolese striker suffered a set back in pre-season when he suffered an injury, he never got any real game time or fitness under his belt.
So when the first game of the season came against Kilmarnock, Zola featured in the starting eleven. He definitely caused problems for the Killie defence but did also miss a couple of good chances. He then started against Motherwell and Celtic and it was much of the same story. The big man up front was getting himself into good positions and creating space well, but it was just his finishing that was letting him down. This could possibly have been down to his extreme lack of fitness.
A contingent of Dons fans were getting on his back and probably thought he was another dud of a target man but over the last few weeks he has responded.
He opened his Aberdeen account where he scored and assisted Pawlett for his goal against Thistle. That was a superb performance from the summer signing. Then Zola got his second goal against Dundee United, and now that he is hitting the net, he will probably start racking in the goals. Zola will be looking to get two goals in a row by grabbing a goal on Saturday against Hibs. He is different and he will be a McInnes success!
