Aberdeen's last outing saw them comfortably defeat St Johnstone by two goals to nil and to be honest the Dons should have pressed home their advantage and have scored more goals against a lack luster St Johnstone side. However focus for Derek McInnes is now on Saturday's game against the other "Saints" St Mirren. The last time the two sides met, Pawlett scored to equlise for the Dons in the final ten minutes to save a point for the men in red. The Dons will be looking to go one step further this time though and go home happy on Saturday evening knowing they have three points tucked in their back pockets. It will be a tricky task though.
The first problem that McInnes faces however is the team selection. He now has a full squad at his disposal as all injury absentees are back fighting fit, bar Clark Robertson who is still out after the knee injury he suffered against Motherwell in the league cup. Willo Flood and Jonny Hayes both surprisingly featured last week against St Johnstone, it almost seemed too early for them return into the fray of the action, but they are fit and raring to go just like every man in the squad. No doubt the fans and the manager will be looking for another dominant display from the team as St Mirren are a team which we should expect to be beating, especially if we are going to be aiming for second place in the league. Also on the mind of the players is the defeat to Hearts the last time the players took to the turf at Pittodrie, this is something that they will want to put right and get the home record back on track as it is key to have strong home performances and results to succeed in the league.
Since coming face to face with Aberdeen in the one one draw, the Sints have gone from strength to strength losing only one game out of their last eight. Danny Lennon, who was on the brink of being sacked has turned fortunes round at the club and they are now slowly but surely working their way up the table. St Mirren now sit only a single point behind Hibernian with a game in hand, and Hibs aren't having the most dismal of seasons either.
Home advantage will probably be enough for the Dons to emerge victorious in this game, but if it gets down to the nitty gritty side of play well Aberdeen have shown they are more than capable of dealing with that too, along with playing some neat and tidy football.
Prediction - Aberdeen 2-0 St Mirren
