The Saints will be looking for revenge when they travel from
Perth to Pittodrie on Saturday for their league cup semi final defeat. However
Aberdeen will be buoyed by their brilliant midweek victory over champions
Celtic and will be looking to cement their place in the top six as a win will
secure the Dons mathematically in the top half of the table.
Aberdeen recovered from their set back at Firhill with a
resounding win over Celtic in the granite city and they will be looking to
build on that result come Saturday. The quality of the Aberdeen side really
begins to show when they come up against much tougher opponents and that was
evident on Tuesday night. St Johnstone will not simply be swept aside though as
the last time this fixture was played out, it ended a stalemate. Something
Derek McInnes will be looking to avoid as he wants to scoop up all three
points. The Dons boss will have an unchanged squad for the match however the
only change to the starting eleven that is expected, is the return of skipper
Russell Anderson. There are no new
injury concerns for Aberdeen coming into the match.
The game versus St Johnstone will be Aberdeen's last league
encounter before embarking through to Glasgow on the 16th March to
play in the cup final, so coming out on top is crucial not only for points but
for confidence. A bad result is the last thing that we need, but hopefully the
boys got that below par performance out of their system at Partick.
Prediction: Aberdeen 1-0 St Johnstone
Aberdeen v St Johnstone
Saturday 1st March 2014
Pittodrie Stadium
