St Mirren v Aberdeen Preview

It is finally back to league action for the Dons after an enthralling two weeks of cup extravaganza. Aberdeen will be back in the mind set of a league match and will be hoping to pick up all three points from the Buddies in their bid for second place. All points at the moment are pivotal as Motherwell are still hot on the heels of Aberdeen, and that Derek McInnes is well aware of.

Several players picked up knocks at Celtic park but should recover for the league game on Saturday. Pawlett was taken off mid way through the second half of the Scottish Cup tie due to being unwell however he should be fit for the game. McInnes expects to name an unchanged side for the match as Robertson and Jack remained sidelined with their respective injuries. Aberdeen have won at every Premiership ground this season apart from Victoria Park and St Mirren Park however the latter the men in red will be looking to rectify come this weekend.

If Aberdeen put in a shift such as the ones they have done so over the last couple of weeks they should come through Saturday with all three points, however the Buddies can not be underestimated. Former Don Greg Wylde will be looking to show his worth after being released by Aberdeen and joining the Saints during the January transfer window. Magennis who is on loan to St Mirren will not be available for them as part of the loan contract terms. He can not play against his parent club. Saint Mirren have shown how capable they are of taking something from games such as the point Aberdeen got the last time they travelled down the road to Paisley. It was a tough fought game that Aberdeen struggled to get a foothold in and finally grafted a point. That will be kept in mind going into this game and despite the brilliant run of form, the Dons players will once again need to be up for it to take the three points.

If Aberdeen do manage to score against the Buddies in the lunch time kick off it will be their 50th goal of the campaign in all competitions, which will surpass the total amount of goals racked up last season (49).

The key to controlling this game will be the midfield. Aberdeen certainly have the upperhand in this department with the likes of Flood, Robson and Pawlett but it is just whether they can control the game and not be distracted by the vigorous play of St Mirren to try and break down the game at any given moment. To win the Dons will need to keep their heads.

Prediction: St Mirren 0-3 Aberdeen
