The Sons of the Rock travel north to Pittodrie to face the
Dons in the Scottish Cup quarter finals on Saturday. Aberdeen come into the
match with two previous league wins, one of those coming against champions
Celtic. Dumbarton who are revived through Ian Murray as the leading figure are
currently sitting mid table in the Championship winning only one game out of
five. However cup football is different and previous form is forgotten as soon
as the two sides step out onto the park, especially Dumbarton as this will be
their biggest game of the season thus far. They are not to be underestimated by
any means.
As the League Cup final draws closer, surely it will be
playing on the minds of the players, and it has been, but manager McInnes has
told them to stay focused as not only do they want to triumph in one cup but
two. But to do this they will need to overcome Dumbarton at Pittodrie which
will be a tough task. Just look at when Aberdeen played host to Alloa and
scraped through on penalties, in some sense it is these type of games that are
the most important if you are going to achieve cup glory. Concentration will be
a key factor for both teams all afternoon, as the game could be a tight one, where somebody could win the match through a mistake.
For any Dons fans going to the match, expect a few changes
to the starting eleven, as although the manager has spoken about taking it one
game at a time, the cup final will be in the back of his mind and he will want to keep
his players fresh and fit. Craig Murray could return to the Dons' squad since
being sidelined all the way back to boxing day, while Robertson is still an
injury absentee. Aberdeen's clever marketing ploy to get fans along to this
match to secure a cup final ticket could boost gate numbers rapidly. As the
club confirmed no general sale will take place it is possible that there was a
swarm for Dumbarton tickets.
