Aberdeen v Hearts Match Report

Aberdeen secured their second win of the year after a comfortable win against a poor Hearts side. Craig Brown got the send off he deserved after a long and successful managerial career. Two goals from Aberdeen's star player McGinn once again put Hearts to the sword at Pittodrie and broke the horrendous record the Dons have had against them in the last couple of years. The victory still sees Aberdeen in a shout for a top six finish but results will need to go our way and first and foremost we need to beat Dundee Utd.

Both teams started brightly, but the first chance fell to N'Goo. Jamie Walker challenged Robertson and then played in N'Goo, he hesitated and Langfield came rushing out to narrow the target. In the end N'Goo could only shoot straight at the Dons keeper. The first goal which seemed inevitable came after only just 10 minutes on the clock. Ryan Jack picked up the ball in the middle of his own half and drove into the space in front of him. The hearts defence backed off and off, and Jack just slipped a ball through to Johnny Hayes who unselfishly cut the ball back to Niall McGinn who tapped in for his 17th goal of the season. A lovely attacking move. After the goal Hearts applied some pressure onto the Dons goal, a long ball was played up to Sutton who rose up well and headed on goal, a brilliant Lanfield save denied the striker. Hearts created another chance soon after and looked certain to score after Walker cut the ball back to Sutton, he beat Langfield but not the post and Aberdeen managed to scramble the ball away to safety.Aberdeen came close to a second just before the break, after a flick through the Hearts defence Magennis was right through on goal and after his two fantastic finishes against Celtic you would have put your money on him scoring this one. Instead he blasted over the bar

The first real chance of the half came to Magennis after the ball was played through to him and he calmly finished into the bottom left corner of the net, but before celebrations could start the linesman had wrongly ruled Josh Magennis offside. The second Dons goal came after a priod of scrappy play. McGinn found himself out on the far left hand side. Two Hearts players came to meet him, but he chipped the ball between them and collected on the other side, he drove into the box, skipped past Danny Wilson and McGinn from the tightest of angles curled the ball inside the far post. A sublime solo effort from Aberdeen's player of the season. He then went out in search of a hat-trick, McGinn smashed in an effort that was blocked and then went down in the box under a challenge from Wilson. However, referee Willie Collum booked the forward for simulation. Aberdeen were dominating the game now and the confidence was sizzling through the team. Hayes picked up the ball basically at the corner flag in his own half, he neatly turned away from one Hearts player and then went on a surging run up the wing and delivered a cross. It fell to McGinn in the centre of the box who hit the shot well, but it was fantastically blocked by McGowan. Hearts could only muster one last effort from a corner. The ball fell to Wilson inside the six yard box, he struck it low and hard and looked sure to score, but Johnny Hayes who was putting in a sublime performance found himself in the right place at the right time and blocked the shot and Lanfield pounced and smothered the ball.

Aberdeen came out on top easy victors after they got their reward from some terrific attacking and defensive play on Saturday. The victory still sees Aberdeen in a shout for a top six finish but results will need to go our way and first and foremost we need to beat Dundee Utd.
