All 12 SPL clubs met today to try and agree upon some other package that could be put in place by next season. This they did and unanimously approved of the terms that were set down on the table.
The decisions that have been taken by the clubs are as follows:
The current three bodies will be merged into one, and that single body will over see the current 12-10-10-10 structure.
There will be play-offs between 11th place in the SPL and 2nd 3rd and 4th in the 1st division. This means 2 new teams could come up every year.
More money will be pumped down into the 1st division to prevent teams being relegated from the SPL and going into financial downfall. A prime example of this is Dunfermline.
The final proposal of the package is to introduce a pyramidal structure to the leagues, this would allow teams who would be able to cope and compete with teams within the 3rd division. Spartans FC are a good example of a team that could quite easily come into the division and compete.
All of these proposals will be formally voted upon by all of the SPL clubs this month. It now seems pretty dead certain that these will go through. Once the SPL clubs have voted this through it well then go to the SFL clubs who will also vote on the matter.
