As Aberdeen have arranged the friendly with FC Twente it came to my attention that Aberdeen and FC Twente have been heavily linked with each other in the past. It may be just by coincidence but there have been several players over the last 30 years that have played for FC Twente and Aberdeen both. Four of these being Marc De Clerk, Scott Booth, Theo Snelders and Tho ten Caat.

Mark De Clerk was a Belgian goalkeeper who played for FC Twente from 1974-1976. He then went on to play for SC Heracles and Go Ahead Eagles before joining Aberdeen in 1980. He made his debut for Aberdeen in the League Cup against Berwick Rangers. However he would never forget his Debut as with a long clearance he scored as the Berwick keeper misjudged the ball and it bounced over him and into the net. Some way for a keeper to make his debut. Marc De Clerk however was only at Aberdeen for a year before returning to SC Heracles.

Scott Booth is one of Aberdeen's most well known players. The striker started his career at Aberdeen and fittingly ended his career at Aberdeen. His first stint at Aberdeen was a reasonable one and saw him there from 1988-1997. In this time period Booth managed 162 appearances with a return of 43 goals. In 1997 Booth then moved to Borrussia Dortmund. After an unsuccessful couple of Years, Scott Booth signed for FC Twente in 1999 and stayed until 2003. He became a fans favourite managing 103 appearances with 21 goals for the club. Booth then returned to Aberdeen to end his career making only 21 appearances and scoring 8 goals. In total Booth made 183 appearances for Aberdeen with 51 goals.

Theo ten Caat began his career at FC Twente. He was at the club for 3 years from 1984-87. Theo made 80 appearances for FC Twente scoring only 10 goals. Theo ten Caat signed for Aberdeen in 1991 after being at several other Dutch clubs. Theo ten Caat was at Aberdeen for 3 years until 1994. During his time playing for the Dandy Dons he made 48 appearances whilst scoring only 5 goals, a poor appearance to goal ratio for a forward. Theo rejoined his boy-hood club FC Twente in 1995 this time staying 4 years until 1999. This time Theo made 100 appearances scoring 8 goals. Theo ten Caat then ended his career at BV Veendam.

Theo Snelders is one of Aberdeen's best and famous goalkeepers. However he began his career at FC Twente. He served the club for 8 years from 1980-88 making a remarkable 176 appearances for the Dutch side. However his feats at FC Twente would be topped at Aberdeen when he signed for them in 1988. He eventually stayed at Aberdeen for 8 years just as he had at FC Twente. However at Aberdeen he made 227 appearances but disappointingly did not score any goals. Snelders was a succesful replacement for Jim Leighton, winning the PFA player of the year in his first season and won Aberdeen the 1990 Scottish Cup Final by saving a penalty from Anton Rogan of Celtic.
