The time is here once again, a new season and high expectations are on the table also. Aberdeen have revamped their team bringing in seven new signings. Kilmarnock on the other hand also under a new manager have only made one summer signing. That being former Hearts player Darren Barr.
Don't get your expectations up too high Dons fans, since 1995 Aberdeen have won on the opening day just 3 times those being against Dundee, Hibs and Hamilton. Although there is a good vibe around Pittodrie, there has been some interesting signings, a shift in management that looks to be for the better, a brand new pitch and some impressive pre-season results.
The Dons have a few injury problems coming into the opening game of the season though. Clark and Considine will still be out, however Michael Hector has been signed by McInnes to cover for Considine until he regains full fitness. The other injury doubt for Saturday is summer signing Calvin Zola. The big target man was substituted in the early stages against Shelbourne with what was expected to be a hamstring issue.
Not much has taken place around Rugby Park compared to other clubs over the summer. A new manager came in that being the face of Allan Johnston, and they have not really bolstered their squad as Kilmarnock have made only one signing and that being Darren Barr. Killy have managed to lose and retain some key players as they lost James Dayton to Oldham Athletic, while the managed to hold on to impressive striker Paul Heffernan.
The opening game of the season could be an interesting one as both teams battle it out to get those all decisive first 3 points on the board.
