The set back against Hearts on Saturday was a real kick in the teeth for both the club and the fans. Aberdeen were strong favourites going into the match but the circumstances within the game made it very difficult for us to come away with a result. However not all is doom and gloom, in fact it is far from that.
If you take Saturday's game out of the equation (and you have to remember one game will not define our season) the Dons were on another great run of form with four superb wins on the bounce. Great results against Dundee Utd, Hibernian and Partick Thistle have seen us push up the table quite considerably and are now sitting in third spot. A position that at this point in time many supporters would have happily taken come the start of the season.
The boys put in what has been one of the best away games ever in the League Cup against Motherwell, especially as the Dons went down to ten men so early on in the match. They showed what a long way they have come already from last season where before they probably would have crumbled, but instead stood strong and resilient at the back and got in about Motherwell on the attack. The pure grit and determination that Aberdeen showed that night is what every fan of the club wants to see, and you could tell this as the 2,500 strong travelling Dons support gave their team a standing ovation at the end of the game.
Derek McInnes has already got a strong squad that he can be proud of. Every single player gives it 110% every time they go out onto the park and you can tell that by the level of performances the manager has been getting. Everyone inside and around Pittodrie has turned it into almost a community, everybody gets on with everyone it is like a tight knit community. All the players and staff have a great bond with each other and even the fans and that is what makes Aberdeen so special, especially this season.
The game against Hearts on Saturday is no more than a blip and even then we still played superbly in the first half, it was poor refereeing that lost us that game. Trust me on this one, when the games come rolling in after the international break Aberdeen will be wanting to get back to winning ways as soon as they can, but a tricky test lies ahead at Celtic Park when we resume. This will be a real marker for Aberdeen and they can hopefully go out and prove just how far they have come from last season and get a result.
