Dons Look To Bounce Back After Opening Day Disappointment

Aberdeen travel to Kilmarnock tonight to face a team who have been rejuvenated over the summer with several fresh faces added to their squad. Wednesday night's match versus Kilmarnock will be a touch challenge for the Dons and will also prove a test of character as they look to recover after succumbing horribly to Dundee United at home on Sunday.

One of those new faces is former Dons front man Josh Magennis who looks to  e reinvigorated in a blue and white striped jersey enjoying a new lease of life at Kilmarnock. It's always great to see a former Dons player experiencing contentment elsewhere but let's just hope his goal tally for Killie does not get up and running tonight.

Following the humbling by Dundee United, it forced the team, the manager and the fans to look at ourselves and it would seem the result is that Aberdeen are still a work in progress and are far from the finished article. McInnes has got Aberdeen heading in the right direction but has not reached his destination yet and that was evident on Sunday.

Both McInnes and eynolds agreed with this statement as they met the media earlier in the week but both tell of how the Dons will be right up for this match tonightas they look to put the wrongdoings of Sunday right by winning the game.

The manager blamed himself for not freshening up the team after our European exertions midweek and that proved to be a fatal mistake as the team looked jaded and mentally tired. Does this mean that the team will be any different as the Dons take to the artificial surface at Rugby Park? We think yes, but only slightly as Anderson and Hayes return from suspension to resume their rightful place in the starting eleven.

Also, for those who are worried about Aberdeen playing on the artificial pitch this evening there is no need to feel so. Last time out on an astro turf pitch we defeated Falkirk 5-0 en route to winning the league cup.

A win for Aberdeen is almost a necessity as even a draw will leave us susceptible to trailing five points from any of the other teams who won on the opening day of the season. It is a gap that you do not want to have to chase, especially at this early stage in the season. The players and more so, McInnes, will be aware of that and I do not doubt for one minute that every ounce of energy will be spent in trying to achieve three pints from this fixture. As some dare say it is a game Aberdeen have to win if they are going to at least put some pressure on Celtic this season.

The match should prove to be an enthralling tussle after Kilmarnock proved to be more than mere relegtion candidates last week by exiting the tricky venue that is Dens Park with a well deserved point.
