Aberdeen play hosts for the fourth game in a row as St Mirren travel north for this re-scheduled Premiership fixture. The game was postponed due to Aberdeen requesting it to be as the games were coming too thick and too fast for the squad to deal with at the beginning of the season.
The Dons' opponents tonight come into the game with only a single win in their last seven matches, although it would have to be said form has picked up slightly of late with a win against Thistle and a narrow defeat to Celtic.
Manager Tommy Craig has insisted that his side will cope this season and all they need to largely improve upon, is scoring goals. This issue could be put down to the absence of target man Steven Thompson who, it has to be said has carried St Mirren through some tough times with his goals being worth their weight in gold. Now though the club have to be able to cope without.
The question for Aberdeen though is, are they able to keep this momentum that they have built up going? With three wins on the bounce and one of those coming against a high flying Inverness CT, it appears as if Derek McInnes has overcome a wobbly start to the season.
Ever since the manager has placed Rooney and Goodwillie up front together, the goals have been flying in with a combined total of ten goals being scored in the last three matches. The hold up play of Goodwillie works well to bring the likes of Pawlett and Hayes into the game where they can cause danger.
On the other hand you have the direct approach of Adam Rooney who is very much a classic target man and has already reached the total of 11 goals for the season. Defences have been finding it hard to cope with the attacking outlets Aberdeen possess and are overwhelmed by the pace, skill and dynamism of the Dons front line.
If both sides play to the best of their abilities, the Dons will without a doubt emerge victorious as we have the better players and team. However football doesn't always work like that, yet going by recent results and performances it would be difficult to imagine anything other than an Aberdeen win. Hopefully I am not forced to eat my words...
There are no new injury worries for Aberdeen as Robertson, Anderson and Jack remain side lined. Ryan Jack's injury it appears is not as bad as first feared and he should be back in action following the International break. Niall McGinn is to receive a late fitness test, so hopefully he passes as he has been a key player in terms of turning provider so far this season.
We will go for a 2-0 prediction for tonight's match! What are yours?
