Season Kickstarted With Emphatic Win Over County

Finally it feels as if our season has taken off after the demolition job of disastrous Ross County. After several disappointing results and, it would have to be said performances, against Dundee United and St Johnstone it looks as if McInnes has rallied the troops albeit against a dishevelled highland outfit.

11,000 hopeful Dons fans turned out to watch their team dismantle Ross County who are now in the capable, or not so capable that's for you to decide, hands of Jim McIntyre and Billy Dodds. Most people across the country were without a doubt sure of an Aberdeen win before the match and if anything else had been produced serious question marks would start to emerge over Aberdeen's start to the season.

However we are not in that position but on the flipside. I feel yesterday's match was a crucial game at a crucial point in the season. No matter who we played yesterday a win was needed to re-inject some life into the beginning of the Dons' campaign. Nobody for a minute believed Aberdeen were out of the race to be best of the rest but the energy surrounding the club had gone a bit flat.

Yet with that emphatic win yesterday which in all honesty should have seen the Dons triumph by six or seven goals the North East express seems to be back on track.

A front line of Goodwillie, Rooney, Pawlett and McGinn worked absolute wonders yesterday for McInnes and the question of "Have the Dons finally found their perfect front line?" has emerged. The dynamic, fast, positive play had the Red Army on their feet several times yesterday and it was great to watch although part of that may be down to the abysmal rear guard of the Highlanders.

It will be interesting to see, if McInnes shapes up similar, against other, tougher teams how Rooney and Goodwillie will fare up front as a partnership. Goodwillie performed magnificently and deservedly received Aberdeen's match sponsor's man of the match. His hold up play and first touch was first class and from that he managed to bring McGinn and Pawlett into the game with his link up play.

The Dons will take heart from Saturday's performance but we can't read too much in to it as Aberdeen will have bigger fish to fry as the weeks go on and sterner tests to face. If we produce those kind of performances every week though, we will be in an excellent position come May.
