Dons Take On League Leaders Cel... Hamilton

Never in my lifetime did I think I would be saying that Aberdeen look to get one over league leaders Hamilton Academical tonight. That is the situation we find ourselves in though with the South Lanarkshire side, topping the able with 20 points and Aberdeen trailing by a four point margin in fifth place. By the end of the night Hamilton will be sitting top of the Premiership table regardless of what happens but it is very possible the Dons could narrow that gap to one and jump up to second.

Friday night football... ahh it has the mark of money and television companies written all over it. The Red Army are being asked to travel (and in number they will) roughly 160 miles whilst fending off rush hour traffic and probably having to ask permission to make a swift exit from work. Many will do that and credit to those who are making the Journey this evening, but not everybody is capable of it and there will be those who can't make the game tonight because it is on a Friday. The footballing bodies throughout the nation seem to only be fuelling the fight against them with the slogan "Against Modern Football" at it's forefront. At the end of the day however do fans even really matter?

Anyway let's focus our attention to tonight's game. Both sides are on a terrific run of form coming into the match with Hamilton's last defeat being the opening day of the season. Ever since then goals and points have been free flowing for Alex Neil's men and Derek McInnes is going to have to find a way to stunt that if Aberdeen are to leave New Douglas Park with three points. Yet the record Aberdeen hold away at Hamilton is a solid one with 11 wins out of our last 14 visits and only a single loss within that as well. The Dons defence has come under a little bit of fire recently with goals finding Langfield's net a lot more than usual, the area where we have been so consistent over recent years, but it has been up the other end of the pitch that games are being won.

The team seem to have adopted the motto of score more than you concede as of late with four wins and no losses in our last five matches whilst averaging three goals per game, pretty impressive. It makes for a brilliant spectacle for those watching in the stands but I bet McInnes will be wanting to solidify that defence for his own nerves more than anything else. The back line will have to find a way of doing that without skipper Russell Anderson as he is still sidelined alongside Ryan Jack and Clark Robertson.

The match has the making of an absolute cracker.
