Aberdeen v St Mirren - Match report

Aberdeen and St Mirren played out an extremely dull match that was deprived of chances at either end of the pitch. Aberdeen succombed to yet another goalless draw at home this season, making it it 5 0-0 draws at Pittodrie for the season.

The first half lacked quality, and the pitch didn't help matters as it was cutting up badly making it really heavy underfoot. Passes were slack and not one clear cut chance was created by either side. Aberdeen looked as if they were too scared to go forward as they did not want to become exposed at the back, as confidence is at rock bottom right now at the club. The only decent play came in the 16th minute when Osbourne started off the move for the Dons switching play with a long diagonal pass out wide to Hayes. He then passed inside to Ray who drove in on goal, passed to McGinn who layed off Hayes and had a shot at Craig Sampsons goal. The shot was comfortably saved.

The best of the action for the 7240 fans that came to Pittodrie was probably at half time when Paul Lawrie winner of the Ryder Cup with team Europe, paraded the Ryder cup around the ground getting photos taken from and with fans.

The second half started brighter when Johnny Hayes picked up the ball at the edge of the box and drove in a shot at goal, only to see it superbly saved by Sampmson. The rebound fell to Robertson outside the box, but he could only blast the ball over the bar. St Mirren replied with a shot of their own, Gary Teale recieved a pass from new signing Goncalves and smashed a shot in on goal, the shot looked destined to be heading into the top corner but out of nowhere Langfield appeared on the seen and turned the ball round the post for a corner.A penalty appeal for Aberdeen came when a ball wa lofted into the area by Hughes and Pawlett looked like he was shoved over in the box, but the referee waved play on. A moment of madness from the referee followed. After St Mirren corner the ball fell to a Saints player outside the box who looked to help it back in the box. Reynold jumped up to head the ball, arms beside his body, and the ball struck his hand which was tucked in beside his stomach. However the referee saw this as an infringement and sent Reynold off for a second bookable offence. Shocking. The last 5 minutes were dominated by the good and bad side of Jamie Langfield. Goncalves as through on goal and the on form striker looked as if he couldn't miss, but Jamie thought otherwise and superbly saved the shot from the Saints striker. In the dying minutes the ball was layed back to Langfield, who attempted to kick the ball up the pitch, but instead missed it and the ball was bobbling all over the place, and looked like it was going to go in. Luckily ended up just a corner.
