Aberdeen started the game with clear intent of scoring goals. Hayes created a chance for himself as he drove at the Thistle defence down the right wing, as the defender back pedalled Hayes seized the opportunity to cut inside and have a shot at goal, the Jags keeper saved well. The resulting corner saw Aberdeen take the lead. Hayes whipped in a low corner which was immediately cleared to the edge of the box, however Hector was there to clip the ball back into the box. And there was Zola to open his Dons account, he glanced the header backwards into the net. Aberdeen continued to pile the pressure on and good pressure from Cammy Smith on the Partick full back saw him lose possession and cammy Smith played the ball to Zola on the bi line who cut back for Pawlett to blast home. The men in white were looking very, very comfortable out there. The home support had nothing to shout about in the way of excitement, they did however create two half chances, a drilled shot past the post that didn't trouble Langfield and a deflected shot that the Dons keeper had to get down well to make the save. It should have been three nil before the break as Zola had a free header inside the box after a clipped cut back from Hector. Either side of the keeper and it would have been a goal but it wasn't and the keeper saved. Derek McInnes went in the happier of the two managers at half time.
The second half continued in much the same way as the first did. Hayes directed a volley superbly at goal but was only inches wide. Then once again Zola caused problems for the Partick defence and allowed Hayes to cross the ball into Smith. He headed straight at the keeper from point blank range. A great save none the less. Then the third goal came, and a good one it was too. Hayes played the ball down the wing to Magennis on seventy minutes. Magennis outpaced and outstrengthed his marker to get a one on one against the Thistle keeper Fox. The striker held his nerve and fired through the keepers legs to make it three nil. Partick tried to make a game of it but the Aberdeen defence held firm forcing the Jags to long range shots. Aberdeen kept the clean sheet and took all three points back up the road to Pittodrie.
All in all a very good win for the Dons as Thistle have looked a good outfit since being promoted to the SPFL. Also good to get back to winning ways. Well done also to all fans who travelled to the game to get behind the Dons.
