The first half was nothing short of a dire affair. A scrappy clearance from the County defence led to Aberdeen's opening chance on the ninth minute. McGinn clipped the ball to the edge of the box where Hayes met it on the volley, his shot was charged down however and the game then descended into a huge scrap. Constant fouls and challenges were upsetting the Dons' rythm and they just couldn't get going. The extremely tight pitch in Dingwall was not helping either, Hayes and McGinn were finding it hard to get width and even get into the game. By far the most exciting moment of the half was when the referee Crawford Allan picked up an injury and had to be replaced by the fourth official. The first change of the match came from the officials themselves. This led to a lengthy stoppage in play. When the play did resume it was County who took advantage and Rocco Quinn found himself in some space wide right of the Aberdeen goal. His shot however went well wide not troubling the Dons goal. Considine was at fault during the attack as he stepped well out of position up into midfield. McGinn concluded the half with a tame long range effort that only tingled the palms of Mark Brown
Ross County came firing out the traps and took the lead seven minutes into the second half. Rocco Quinn was left unmarked out on the right and his run was not picked up either. The ball was slipped into his path by De Leeuw. He bore down on goal and smashed home into the roof of the net. Langfield had no chance. Aberdeen were up against it now. Aberdeen looked to respond on the hour mark after dodgy defending from County again. Pawlett scooped the ball back into the box from the bi-line and found Vernon, who allowed the ball to bounce and then failed to find the net with his powerless header on goal. Soon after Robertson found himself at his own bi-line and a loose pass allowed De Leeuw to intercept. He then confidently shifted the ball across to Carey in the air who had an effort on goal from a Volley, Langfield gathered well though. Aberdeen were really failing to create any clear cut chances, so when a penalty shout came along Pawlett tried to convinve the officials it was. Summers shook his head and play raged on at the other end of the pitch. Steven Ross was through on goal and out charged the Dons keeper, the County man was aware of the keepers presence and tried to loop the ball over him but his effort landed wide of the net. Another great chance opened up for County on the 78th minute. A great ball from Carey looked to have it on a plate for Luckassen who's header glanced past the far right hand post. It should have been 2-0. Aberdeen's best chance of the match and best chance of an equaliser probably came inside the last five minutes. Hector whipped in a good ball into the box who found Niall McGinn on_side, but his header was saved by Mark Brown. If he had put the ball where the keeper had came from he would have scored.
