Aberdeen v Kilmarnock Preview

Derek McInnes has made it clear that he does not want Kilmarnock to rain on his Aberdeen's parade after the League cup success last Sunday. For that reason it has been straight back to business for the Dons after a few celebratory evenings to make sure that there will be no cup hangover and that cannot be used as an excuse for a bad performance.

Lifting the trophy however has come at a cost through Jonny Hayes. Hayes went of injured after only 10 seconds in the cup final rupturing his collar bone and could now be out for up to a maximum of six weeks which is a blow for both player and club. With Pawlett missing the Kilmarnock game also, it may force McInnes into a change in formation with maybe playing perhaps two up front to help out Rooney, who looked to isolated last week. Clark Robertson returns after a lengthy period on the sidelines which is good to see.

Aberdeen have taken maximum points from Kilmarnock so far this season, however on both occasions only a single goal seperated the sides. This seems to be a pattern in the Dons' play this season, grinding out results by a one goal margin but it is mainly down to the fact teams sit in against us, home and away. They know that if they come to Pittodrie and play open expansive football the Dons will pick them off. We should really take it as a compliment that teams see us as a threat but the fans want to see goals.

A large crowd is expected for the match to cheer on the Dons and say thank you for the wonderful day out they gave all supporters on Sunday and also a card display is planned. Not that it will top the display of last weekend but it will be a nice touch to welcome the players onto the pitch. So if you have a card under your seat, please raise it when the signal is given. Hopefully it is more or less a sell out so the atmosphere generated last week can be recreated inside Pittodrie. It should promise to be an  enthralling match.
