The Atmosphere Is Building

The larger crowd at Saturday's match versus Kilmarnock added something back to Pittodrie that has been missing for quite some time since the Red Ultras disbanded, a little bit of noise. Now, no disrespect to the fans in the different sections of the stadium who sing their hearts out all game long, but you are in the minority and we want that to change. Over the last week with events like the Cup Final and the league cup parade, prove that Aberdeen has a tremendous fan base and the atmosphere that was generated at both of these were phenomenal, particularly at Parkhead.

McInnes has expressed to the media and supporters over the previous week that he would love to see the away atmosphere bottled and generated at home games by creating a stirring atmosphere inside Pittodrie on match days. Why has this been missing over the past few years? Well in all honesty nobody is quite sure. You saw from the scenes at the League Cup winningparade that  the city and beyond is right behind the team and the McInnes regime (which is a bloody good one). Parkhead, for the League Cup final was bouncing, as a sea of red and white boomed choruses of "Stand Free" amongst other Dons chants around the east of Glasgow. We need to find a way of bottling even a quarter of that atmosphere and letting it out at home matches. There is no doubt that the atmosphere on Saturday was much better than usual and the "Stand up for the Aberdeen" certainly got the crowd going. However we want more of this and a bigger volume of noise.

Since the disappearance of the Red Ultras there has been a lack of responsibility to take the lead in the singing at Pittodrie. However now that the team is on the trail for success once again and as the crowds come streaming back into Pitodrie (hopefullly), now would be a brilliant chance to build up at least a leading voice in bringing the buzz back to Pittodrie. This is exactly what twitter page "VoiceAndColour" are attempting to do. If you are on twitter be sure to give them a follow @NEfanatics. The Richard Donald upper is where the majority of noise can be created, just due to the way the stand is built, and this is where Voice and Colour are trying to get Aberdeen fans who are up for a sing song to gather. If you are interested and are willing to help bring the atmosphere back to Pittodrie, head to the centre block at the back of the Richard Donald Stand against Dundee United and get Pittodrie bouncing again. Voice and Colour said "We are gathering in the top deck of the Dick Donald in the centre block, and we think this new campaign will work because there is a lot of enthusiasm especially from younger fans in the teenage bracket. However there is still a lot of the older generations interested and keen to help out. I believe there is a gap to fill at Pittodrie, atmosphere wise and we see, along with many fans that somebody needs to fill that gap."

It is good to see that there is passion to have some form of a singing section back inside Pittodrie, and to create the noise that fans produce at away games would be brilliant!
